Google Panda Hits UK

Google Panda Hits UK!

Although more commonly known in the USA, Google Panda - Google's new algorithm programme has been moved overseas the UK in order to become more stricter on the websites listed within the UK’s sector of the search engine.

What does this mean?

Google has been scanning web pages listed within their search engine and have pulled off many websites which their new programmes deems unfit for their users - Commonly users of the internet will add "Keywords" to their web pages in order to move higher up the search listings - unfortunately many users abuse this and tend to place hundreds of keywords within their pages which is causing users who search through Google to find irrelevant information relating to their search query. Google's search engine has very specific rules on their web crawlers to search a users content and assess if the page has unique and original information, Google Panda is a further progression of this insisting that websites are more original and not just copies of other websites.

How can Furious Designs help?

Already our SEO teams place only specific information relating to the users business and ensure all the requirements are made in a unique and organic way - i.e: avoiding link farms etc...
If you have any concerns or you have suddenly noticed that your website no longer appears on Google - Call our friendly support team and we can access the situation and help in any way we can to help your business climb the Google ranks in an organic way.

Are employers asking for too many skills?

Are employers asking for too many skills?

Downlaod PDF

In a recent survey completed by http://www.furiousdesigns.co.uk it appears that over
90% of the current available job advertisements are asking for too many skills for a single applicant.

During the tough times of the global recession it's no wonder that businesses are looking to minimize their outgoing's by merging jobs and making redundancies but is this just a way to ask for more talented individuals for less money than they should be earning? Upon research, it appears that employers are asking anywhere between £12,000 - £20,000 for almost triple the skills, not to mention the required qualifications and "commercial experience".

It certainly seems that many designers are having to have a very broad knowledge of web design -
we looked into the requirements that many employers on recruitment websites such as: Reed, Jobs 24, Jobsite and JobCentre all in which had employers asking for a minimum skill level of: HTML, CSS, ASP.Net Visual Studio 2005/2010, MySql, Windows Server 2003 to the more ambitious, HTML, CSS, ASP.Net Visual Studio 2005/2010, MySql, Windows Server 2003, Adobe CS5 Suite (Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, InDesign) and a minimum of 1-3 years commercial experience. It's fair to assume that businesses are asking a lot of web developers for the poor salaries they are currently offering. The skills listed may not appear significant but ask any web designer and they will certainly explain the mountain to climb in order to be this fluent in web development.

We at furious designs believe that there are many talented individuals in web development which currently do many of the skills on either a hobby or freelance basis which under the circumstances find it hard to obtain a position within a business due to lack of "Commercial Experience". The question on every one's mind is: "How to we obtain it?" unfortunately this situation can more commonly be resolved on a "Who you know" basis thus being a very small gap.

Unfortunately this issue will continue until the economy grows again and even then, many companies will continue to take advantage.
Here a just a few helpful tips to get yourself known and help to obtain work.

Study Up.
As we discusses earlier, employers are asking for many skills, more popular web programming skills such as the ever popular ".Net framework" Also due to social networking and blogging increasingly growing, investigate powerful blogging tool; "Word Press".

Get your name out there!
The most common way to become noticed is the "word of mouth" technique. So sign up to popular social networking sites such as "Facebook, Twitter etc" post blogs, get a web based portfolio set up and join
discussion boards - This helps not only get your name out but can increase web traffic to your website!

Sell yourself.
Arguably Curriculum Vitae's (CV) are very complicated to word and can often have the wrong details, employers are often misinterpreting these and getting the wrong idea so ensure you research ways to write your CV, ensure you list only skills you genuinely can do, be honest, thoroughly check spelling (especially if you've stated you have "great attention to detail") as this can commonly be missed by computer spell checks spelling a word in the wrong context. Word your CV carefully selecting words that make you stand out.

Facebook "Like" button Validation issues

Due to social networking websites being all the rage these days, people are now wanting "Apps" such as Facebook's "Like" button added to their web pages. Only problem is, these plug-ins are not valid within the World Web Consortuim and will cause multiple issues when attempting to validate. So whats the answer? Upon doing some research, Furious Designs uncovered a designer who has developed as solution to Facebook's "Like" button to be completely compliant with todays web standards. How? By adding a simple javascript as apposed to letting the App run from your HTML page thus curing the problem we can now display this App and fully validate it.

Thank you, Justin Norton for this brilliant work around.

Professional Web Design Vs Rookie

At Furious Designs we pride ourselves on giving our clients the most dynamic designs that the internet offers by strictly ahearing to the regulations of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) regulations. All designs are tested to be 100% compliant with these rules ensuring that our designs preform the best they can on the internet, the most effective result of properly coded webpages is that search engines such as Google and Yahoo can find these pages easier thus improving your listing for keywords. Also to other web design enthusiasts this is a mark of a professional web designer, detailing that alot of thought and care has been provided to design the most effective pages on the web.

Rookie designers who offer "cheap designs" are often inexperienced in the designs of the web will usually charge cheap prices for their work, but give you non effective websites that will preform at no rate with search engines, although that said many professional web companies will charge very expensive prices for designs that will also have been "thrown" together and have had no care or time in the actual coding process.

The point of this article is to educate clients wanting web work created, beware of the rookies and ensure you ask if their designs are 100% compliant with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) - This is KEY to a professional Web Designer.
